Exploring The Outside

Babies Outdoors

One of the best ways to educate your little one about the outside world is to let him explore it for himself. When your child is old enough to walk, letting him explore the outside is one of the best educational experiences he will have.

But there are a few precautions to take when exposing your child to the outside. One is dressing for the weather. Don’t over-dress or under-dress baby. After baby has passed the early infant age, they are able to regulate their body temperature the same as older children and adults. So dress your child the same as you. If you are comfortable in shorts and a T-shirt, dress your little one the same way. Likewise, if you feel the need to wear a light jacket, your toddler would probably benefit from a jacket, too.

Another thing to think about are pets. If you have outdoor pets, you need to practice caution when your child meets your pet. Even if you have a very sociable, friendly dog, you never know how a pet and a child will react to one another. Your child may be afraid of the dog at first, especially if the dog is over-friendly and likes to jump or lick. Or your child may want to play with the dog. But he may not know how to play with the dog. Your toddler may pull the dog’s fur or ear or they may poke the dog in the eye. Your dog may not see this as play and may snap at your child. And you certainly don’t want that to happen.

But don’t be afraid to let your child explore. Let him wear some old clothes (so you don’t have to worry about ruining them with dirt and mud) and just let him be a kid.
