Games for Your 4-Month Old Baby

Building Blocks for Kids

Your 4-month old baby is just beginning to develop eye-hand coordination and be interested in games and objects as toys. Here are a few games that will entertain your baby and help your baby as he or she grows.

  1. Block Tower. Sit on the floor and use your body as a back-rest for your baby. Finish helping to prop him or her up with your hands. Stack 4-6 light-weight blocks or stack-able toys on top of each other and help your baby knock them over. Soon your baby will be happily trying to knock them over without your help! Occasionally hand one toy to your baby and help your baby grab onto it with both hands.
  2. Tummy Tasks. During tummy time, place a bright toy within easy reach for your baby, but at an angle so that your baby must move his or her hands to grab it. Encourage your baby to reach for the toy by waving it around. Once your baby gets it, celebrate with hugs, kisses, and “Yays!”
  3. Peek-a-boo. Lay your baby face-up on the floor or bed. Cover his or her face with a light-weight blanket, and slowly pull the blanket off. Ask, “Where’s (baby’s name)?” until your baby makes eye-contact with you. Celebrate before repeating.

The first two games will help develop eye-hand coordination just as your baby begins to be capable of playing. Babies’ vision is still developing until they reach about six months. The third game helps your baby practice adjusting his or her focus while looking for one of his or her favorite people!
