Diaper Discussions

Choosing what diapers to use on your baby may be one of the most frequent decisions you make as a parent—it gets revisited every time you purchase more diapers. Huggies, Pampers, and Luvs lead the diaper industry as the most expensive name-brand options available. Are they really worth all the money? What should parents consider when choosing a diaper brand?
Safety is always a major issue. If your baby has a sensitive bottom or is getting rashes often, he or she may be allergic to the diaper brand you’ve chosen. Try switching brands and see if the rashes clear up. Keep in mind that some babies are also allergic to some brands of wipes.
If you’re concerned about smells, Pampers diapers have the strongest perfume—and it is a beautiful smell! If a perfect fit is your major goal, Huggies offers at least two different styles to accommodate different babies. If leakage has been a problem, Luvs is currently offering a leakage-guarantee or your money back! (This may be worth experimenting with more—Luvs is also usually cheaper than Huggies and Pampers. Generic brands are always a temptation, so I decided to investigate how efficient they really are. I compared White Cloud and Parent’s Choice against Huggies. White Cloud simply did not have the absorbancy powers that Huggies did. If I wanted to keep my 12-month old’s clothes clean, I had to change the White Cloud diaper at least every 2 hours (and hope she didn’t poop at all!). Parent’s Choice did a pretty good job at keeping wet inside the diaper, but did not hold as much poop as Huggies. Additionally, my baby seemed allergic to Parent’s Choice. I decided the generic brands are not worth the money saved.
