Selling Newborn Pictures: For Better or For Worse?
A few days ago, I saw the the article which features twins of the Jolie-Pitt family (Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s latest addition to their growing brood). Named as Vivienne and Knox, these babies reportedly generated $14 million for their first pictures ever. And as I read further, it said that all proceeds will go to charity.
Max and Emme Lopez-Muñiz (twins of Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony) reportedly raised $6 million for the babies’ first shutterbug experience.
And the above mentioned couples give out photo rights of their offspring, others are adamant about it.
Nicole Kidman and husband Keith Urban declined offers for their baby’s first photo exclusive – just like what they did for their wedding. Halle Berry was furious about a photographer who was so desperate to take pictures of her and daughter Nahla. And a lot more celebrities declined large sum of money in exchange of a few shots.
So the question is, why?
While using proceeds for the greater good, we can’t hide the fact that these children are in danger of being exploited someday. That early exposure might do more harm than good in the long run.
How will you teach them to deal with papparazzi at age 2? Will they love to see pictures of them – doing just about anything when they grow up?
While answers to those questions will depend on the manner they’ll be raised, I personally believe that a child should be given the most normal setting possible – away from bright lights and photo crazy glossy magazines.
But that’s just me. What about you? If you were a celebrity and loads of million dollars are talking, would you give in?
