Top Healthy Snacks for Toddlers
When my daughter started attending school, I had this dillema on what to give her as snack. At first, it was easy – fruit juices and sandwiches or cupcakes. Until it became biscuits and chocolate drink. Later on, I observed that at times, she doesn’t eat her snacks at all.
And so I researched on something new for her taste buds – snacks that are budget-healthy, easy to make, tastes good and something healthy. I have come up with buttered corn and carrots, ham and cheese rolls, home made mini-pizza (which only takes 15 minutes), and crema de fruta (done overnight – you just have to pile up layers of your favorite fruit toppings with graham crackers as base layer).
Since then, I’ve made it a habit to look for new snack at least every week. Here’s some of the snacks I’ve scoured all over the web.
- Yoghurt – Choose flavored ones and that can be chilled.
- Quesadillas – Tortillas wrapped by melted cheese. Yummy and hit among kids.
- Dark Chocolate – 4 bite size will do. Chocolates are natural antioxidants, so a good dose will be enough.
- Flavored Milk – Just like yogurts, but milks comes in any almost imaginable flavors. Tip: you can have them frozen and have the kids eat them as ice candies.
- Pop Rice – Had some leftover rice? Here’s an alternative to save grains and make kids eat them.
- Raisins – my daughters favorite. Can be eaten while watching TV or in movie theaters. Popcorn alternative.
- Smoothies – Perfect for summer. You can experiment using your child’s favorite fruits.
- Rice Cakes – Loads up on carbohydrates so give them portions.
- Pretzels – you can dip them in peanut butter, cheese, mayo, or jams!
How about you? What’s your child favorite snack?

Its a minefeild, trying to get the right food more importantly that they will eat into their boxes i found that they really like crunchy chopped up fruit they wouldn’t eat an apple but they would eat it if I cut it up same with grapes oranges so strange but it is worth a try

Your list sounds great but you might want to try to lay off of the sugary foods. If your tot likes sweets feed him/her natures sugar, fresh fruit. My two toddlers just love fresh berries, peaches (make sure you cut them up into tot friendly peices), plums, grapes (cut into quarters) and apples with peanut butter. Stay away from flavored milk. There is too much added sugar in flavored milk. Save that for an occasional treat not an every day snack. Dark chocolate or any kind of chocolate is delicious but is also packed with a lot of sugar. My kids only get chocolate on special occasions such as holidays and birthdays. Some of your suggestions sounded great though. I love reading your blog.
