The First Dolls?
For a mere $9.99 you too can own your very own set of first daughters. Sweet Sasha and Marvelous Malia have been introduced to the market to different reviews. President Obama and First Lady Michelle aren’t too pleased with the move (and to be honest, they are the two opinions that count the most as the girl’s parents).
Ty Inc. has waffled a bit on if the dolls are intentionally resembling the first daughters or not. First stating that “They are such beautiful girls, how could we resist” after some backlash however now state, “They are such beautiful names”. Hmm?
The mass marketing of everything Obama doesn’t really come as a surprise but should his daughter’s be off limits? The President and First Lady have been quoted as saying: “We believe it is inappropriate to use young private citizens for marketing purposes,” through his press secretary Katie McCormick Lelyveld in a statement.
Did Ty Inc over step the line?
