Poisons in Baby’s Products: Small Steps Forward?

In a few more cases of contaminant and baby product related news:
*In the US the harmful chemical that is found in baby bottles may be banned soon. A bill was introduced Friday calling for lawmakers to ban the use of BPA (Bisphenol-A) in bottles and other child oriented products. This moves comes after major manufacturers have already agreed to stop the use of the chemical and have already started pulling the products off the shelves.
How nice of them to try and ban the toxin after the companies have already started to do something about it. This just seems like it is a bit backward and should have happened already.
*In Beijing, China they may start testing of Johnson & Johnson’s baby bath products after a source has said that the products contain formaldehyde, which can cause cancer.
BEIJING, March 16 — Baby products from Johnson & Johnson may be tested by experts from Shanghai’s food and drug administration after a report that they contain chemicals which could cause cancer.
Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, a non-US organization, found formaldehyde and 1,4-dioxane in “dozens of top-selling children’s bath products” including products from Johnson’s and Procter & Gamble, it said in a report released last week.
From a Chinese News Website
Doesn’t it seem as if there is a step forward there’s two back? Is all the dangerous chemicals found in the baby products a result of manufacturing? Or perhaps an effort to save some money?
To be perfectly honest, I don’t know the answer to that question. What I do know however, manufacturers should be much more careful than they have been with children’s health. This is a disturbing trend, and every week it seems more and more contaminants are found in our children’s food, toys, and other products.
Yet, it seems the solutions that lawmakers and manufacturers come up with are either painfully misguided or too late.
