Privacy VS Parental Right to Know

1178893451spy-cameraSpying is big business, from spouses checking in on their mates, to parents concerned about their child’s whereabouts.   With most of it being a bit on the cheap, most parents can be their own James Bond type of spy on their kids.

There are many and varied ways to spy on your kids. Low tech ways, such as ’snooping’ and (as I used to say to my own mother) ‘asking too many questions’. There’s also many hi-tech variations, from GPS tracking in phones and vechicles, to cameras.

The affordability of smaller technology makes this all the more easy to get a hold of, with most of the things easily found online.  Nanny cams, used primarily to keep tabs on caregivers are and have been a big seller.  They’ve been a great asset to people who’s children were being abused by the ones who were supposed to be looking out for them.  Helping also to calm the nerves of parents whose children weren’t being harmed also.

The question is, just because you can does it mean you should?   Both sides are understandable,  even if only in theory.  Every parent can understand another’s concern for the well being of their child, and relate on that level.

You can find input from both sides of the debate everywhere, all with their own arguments and justifications.  I’m sure that readers here have their own input as well.

What do you think?  Is spying on your child ever okay?  Where does it go too far?
