Reality Show Families: Should Kid’s Really Be Involved?
‘Reality’ television is really anything but, from the mini-beauty queens of Toddlers & Tiaras to the slightly more conventional Little People, Big World and Kids by the Dozen. There’s a family ‘reality’ show it seems for most people.
These at time seem like the modern day circus sideshow, a guilty pleasure of millions of television viewers.
Is it all okay? Should be be gawking?
There are some shows, such as Toddlers & Tiaras that can strike a nerve with many people. Parading your barely out of diapers child around does make many people uncomfortable (understandibly so), especially when they’re wearing more make-up than most women wear.
Then there’s the ‘family’ ones, showcasing the various and unconventional ways people live their lives. Kids by the Dozen is a great example of this one, the show has a bunch of different types of families, with the only thing in common being their large broods.
The shows in the vein of Little People, Big World just serve to illustrate how varied we all are. It’s always struck me more as a show to generate awe that ‘they can accomplish so much, in the face of so much adversity”. Underneath that however, it’s more of a show waxing on accepting everybody.
These shows, love them or hate them, have huge followings. They also have may detractors.
It is assumed one would know what they are getting into when they sign up. Unfortunately, once they are on the shows they do and will become fodder for the masses. The question remains, should the kids be off-limits?
