Sugar Comeback: The Marketing Ploy

Corn Syrup VS Sugar, is the new hot button issue on the playground.  Sugar lovers claim that sugar is good for you (at least better than it’s corn syrup counterpart) Corn syrup makers say that there’s no difference, corn syrup is natural too after all.  It comes from one of the most versatile crops we have, corn.

Now, the marketers of various sweets from juice to soda to cereal, have listened and have a plan.  They’ll be bringing  sugar back into food- vogue.

I’m no scientist, but those who actually hold degrees and study this kind of thing (sweet job huh? Sorry, I couldn’t resist) say that there is no difference health wise between the two products, both are considered a natural product.

Corn syrup tried to fight an.. interesting battle with the public conscious, calling moms dumb (not really a great idea).  Essentially they were all the same ads, parent a gives their child a sweet (containing corn syrup) parent B jumped down their throat.  Person A demanded Person B tell them why Corn Syrup was so horrible and never fail, Person B was speechless and looked like an idiot.

Considering my little diagram up there more than likely isn’t that great here’s an example:Corn Syrup Couple Ad

Yeah, even if  (hypothetically speaking) they are the same- this ad doesn’t do much to convince. Even creepy acting can’t save it now.

Then again, neither does this one: Corn Syrup “Dumb Mom VS ‘Smart Mom’ ” Ad

This one manages to be both insulting and obnoxious. Good on them (no, seriously that combo takes some talent).

Now, personally speaking I don’t know if there is a huge difference, the marketers don’t either.  This move is just to appeal to the various foodstuff’s audience nothing more.

Although, I’m sure the ads up there at their base points are correct.  ”Fine in moderation” is usually the way everything is.  Obesity won’t be going away due to a change in sweeteners, as some claim.
