Learning is 50/50 With Sons?
It’s obviously common knowledge that parents teach their kids a lot of lessons in life, being their first teacher is simply par for the course of parenthood.
Granted the article (and the study) is comprised mainly of sons and the way they shape their parents, mostly their father’s work and social life.
From The Star
Adolescents, for example, “influence their fathers with respect to values relating to the enjoyment of life,” according to findings released by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research.
The study says that it is mainly sons that exert this influence over the parents. Although, I beg to differ in the thought that daughters don’t ‘teach as much’. Having a child, regardless of gender, who will have their own personality and outlooks do exert a heavy influence.
… fathers are important for passing on values relating to ideas about work. On the other hand, mothers are important in passing on self-determination; being able to do what you want of your own free will.”
Although, I cannot speak for the study itself it does seem that a bit of the reason that sons and daughters seem to teach their parents differently is due to the sociological norms and a few other factors.
