Childhood worries can very often manifest themselves in some strange ways.  From ghosts in the attic to monsters in the closet or under the bed.  Calming these fears is important, even if they are completely normal, it can help a kid to adjust to stressors in their lives.

Because kids, and especially young children, can have trouble vocalizing their anxiety they can sometimes seemingly unrelated fears.  These fears are very common, and most kids at some point or another will experience some kind or another.

Being understanding of your child’s fears no matter how silly they may seem can go a long way.  This doesn’t mean you have to always let them into mom and dad’s bed, it may mean a quick check of a closet or underneath the bed.

Sometimes something as simple as a hug or a nightlight may help.  My own mom gave me a flashlight so I would be able to see in the dark, and look for anything that I thought was there.  Somehow something that simple really can do the trick.

If you suspect that there may be a deeper problem that is starting any fears, don’t hesitate to talk to your child’s doctor about the concerns.
