Pixar Grants Dying Wish

colby_lrg
It’s a heartwarming story, with a surprising hero in that of Pixar, the animation studio. While most companies are given a rather bad rap (at time deservedly so), Pixar made Colby Curtin’s one final wish come true.

All she wanted was to see ‘Up’ before she died.

The weekend she was supposed to see it (June 4th), Colby and her family waited and waited for the wheelchair and transportation that never came. By June 9th Colby was far too sick to go to the theater to see the movie.

Frantically, and knowing that the end was very close a family friend Terrell Orum-Moore, made phone calls trying to find a way for the dying child to see the movie. Eventually getting a hold of Pixar itself.

Pixar officials listened to Colby’s story and agreed to send someone to Colby’s house the next day with a DVD of “Up,” Orum-Moore recalled.

She immediately called Lisa Curtin, who told Colby.

“Do you think you can hang on?” Colby’s mother said.
“I’m ready (to die), but I’m going to wait for the movie,” the girl replied.

From this article on Colby

Pixar made good on their promise, an employee arrived at noon with DVD in hand. While Colby was in too much pain to open her eyes, her mother described the movie to her. The mystery employee left, with tears in his eyes.

Sadly, Colby died soon after getting her last wish. Pixar’s refusal to comment on the story or identify the employee makes it clear this wasn’t a PR move.
