Single Parenting, The Realities

cf_1206_single-mom

The popular image of a single mom is one that is a hard and depressing one, stressed out, sad lonely and desperately wanting a partner.  Yet there is another side to the coin, the single parents that are very happy with the path.  They’ve chosen it for a variety of reasons, and live it every day.

I found a rather fantastic quote from Canadian Family story dispelling many of the myths on single motherhood:

Part of the bittersweet reality of adulthood, though, is that people get together, have kids and, sometimes, split up.

Now, don’t get me wrong- it is rough.  You are the mom, the dad, chef, and a million other things.  There aren’t many (if any at all) breaks for many single parents.   Yet, it’s something that many (myself included) do agree with the fabulous writer above about.

While a lot has been written by people (including myself) about unintentional births and the single’ness’ that goes along with that, not as much about the women who choose to go it alone.  With the divorce rates as high as they are, there are more single parents out there than ever before.   Most don’t come even close to resembling the many myths and hearsay that surrounds single parenthood.
