To Maury Povich With You!
Maybe this judge is on to something.
Most are familiar with the Maury Povich show the trash tv infamous for the dancing not-dads. Just in case you have been under some sort of rock, here is a rather famous clip. Warning, your faith in humanity may shrink after watching this.
Judge Wade McCree’s courtroom in Wayne County, Detroit may start forcing deadbeat dad’s to watch Maury to realize how little respect they get. Admittedly, in a rare twist the move is making people side with Fox News:
If you’re not a fan, that may strike you as a violation of the Constitution’s provisions against cruel and unusual punishment.
But this punishment does fit the crime.

With the recent upsurge in single parenting statistics courts are trying harder to get deadbeat dads and moms to pony up to their side of the responsibility. While the statistics alone for single parenthood don’t take into the account the many whom are intentionally going the route alone, there still is a huge surge of unplanned births (and by proxy in deadbeat parents).
While forcing anyone to watch Maury is an interesting form of punishment, one has to really wonder if it will really make any sort of difference. The stated intent is so the guys and gals realize how awful they really look, but do they really not know or have any inkling of a clue? It would be increasingly surprising if they thought that everything was perfectly fine in evading any and all parental responsibility.
That seems to be the purpose at least, making them see how they are viewed.
Maybe this is a fitting punishment, even if cruel.
