What Makes A Good Daycare?
It’s a hard fact of life that sometimes both parents (or single ones) have to work and place the little one’s in a daycare. While many agree that the socialization is good for a kiddo, it still can be incredibly hard to leave your child with someone else.
Here are some simple things to look out for, if for nothing else than a bit of reassurance.
Priorities and Research
Make sure that the daycare fits your needs. Are you looking for one near your work? Are you looking for something specific? Find out and list all the daycares that fit your needs and then google them, and talk to parents who may have some experience in them.
An easy way is to type in ‘daycare’ into google, it will then give you a list of all the facilities near you.
Visit and get a feel for the program
BabyCenter has a few checklists that can help in the decision making process as well. They have all the things to watch out for and pay close attention to.
A good reputation
Established ground rules
A stimulating curriculum
A qualified, caring staff
Clean, safe facilities
A current license
Visiting a daycare at a busier time can give you a good feel for the way things are done. Pay attention to the teachers, do they look frazzled or stressed? Does all seem fabulous and great? How do the kids there seem to be acting?
Also pay attention to the teacher to child ratio, and know the mandates by your state.
