Bubble Burst on ‘Balloon Boy’ Highlights The Sad State

In a story that had seemed as much of a rollercoaster of emotions as some scripted television drama the scripted feel of the ‘Balloon Boy’ truly illustrates better than most things the sad state of affairs in society today.

First we were gripped with panic at the thought of a poor child’s trauma, then we collectively breathed a huge sigh of relief when he was found, now we are bursting with anger at the callousness of the boy’s ‘parents’.

The ‘parents’ used what many of us would consider our biggest fear as a media moment.  The whole saga was in fact scripted by none other than those who should have been protecting him from this type of horror.  The boy has been showing many classic signs of stress and anxiety yet, they still are pushing.  All that just for their 15 minutes of fame?

While there is no ‘good’ reason for such a disgusting thing, out of all of them, for some silly reality television series?  With all the present ‘news’ about the ‘stars’ of all those series, this becomes something beyond convoluted.

Is 15 minutes of fame really worth a lifetime of trauma?
