Survey and Questions Involving ADD and Medication

PieChart

The pie chart above shows the results of a recent survey conducted by Shire plc (a global biomedical company).  The survey questioned parents over the internet about when they noticed their child’s once a day ADD medication working.  The results are surprising, most parents saw no real difference until pm (or later).

While the survey is older (from November 2007), it still raises the questions of changing the treatments.  If children are on medications that don’t kick in until much later at night, has anything changed? The company included not only their own medication, but medication (both in stimulant and non-stimulant ADD medications) all had similar results.

Out of many other issues, ADD raises among the most concerns.  It was labeled as a ‘trendy’ diagnosis, with many people questioning the methods over how it is still being diagnosed.  While it’s not to say that it is fake in anyway, it has fallen under the over diagnosed are for a while now.  There have been many concerns over teachers and parents being given a ‘questionnaire’ to fill out, with no real psychological training to speak of (in normal cases at least).

What is your opinion on the matter?  If ADD and ADHD over diagnosed?
