Be Extra Careful With Your Information
![]()
You check your email and find that you are the winner of some amazing prize or cash. It’s a trick as old as can be, but thousands fall for it. A lot of shady companies offer some amazing deal, or claim that someone is a winner of something to get them to hand over they’re information.
There are, it seems many more scams going around lately. While the climate may warrant you to worry- don’t panic. There are many great and simple steps to follow, especially on the internet, that will save you the horror of having your information stolen.
Be Vigilant:
From email to snail mail, getting into certain habits that you constantly and consistently follow.
- Shred everything, especially any statements or related mail. If you aren’t sure, be safe rather than sorry.
- Don’t click links in emails. Especially if they are claiming to be your bank or another account.
- Don’t download random programs, toolbars, etc. While sure, it that game may sound great- if the source is shady you are putting yourself and your information at risk.
While in the past there has been a lot about anti-virus programs and that still stands, it’s always a better bet to limit risk as well. While yes, you should still use the programs, and scan your system regularly. You should also be sure to download those programs from very trustworthy websites (download.com is a personal favorite) as there are a lot of fake virus programs out there.
