Facebook Faces Lawsuit Over Scammy Advertising In It’s Games

Facebook and Zynga (the makers of the popular games Mafia Wars and Farmville), are facing down a class action lawsuit over various advertisements that run on the website and in the games.  There is a lot of concern over the advertisements themselves, and the class action is seeking $5 million dollars from the companies.

The complaints over the advertisements are of both misleading ads and ads that trick users into signing up for things under the guise of a free trial, or that the information is part of a fun test.  The ads deliberately trick the games’s users into giving them information to sign the user up for things they don’t want, but may find themselves paying for anyway.

Never give your personal information out online, and protect your privacy.  Facebook is used by both many parents and their kids, so knowing the steps to protect yourself is incredibly important.

Many people play the games that are involved, Farmville and Mafia Wars are two of the most popular on the websites.
