Zhu Zhu Pets May Be Poisonous
The huge hit Zhu Zhu pets may be dangerous, they have been found to have more antimony than federal standards allow. If this is cause to actually concern parents who have bought this years hottest toys or not is up for debate, and changes based on whom you are talking to.
One in particular is effected a Zhu Zhu pet called: Mister Squiggles. A consumer group out of California testing it and found the particular toy to have 93 to 106 parts per million, the federal allowed limit is 60 parts per million. The chemical antimony is used in textiles and plastics to prevent them from catching fire.
The toy’s creator however, stands by his toys.
From CNN:
"All our products are subjected to several levels of rigorous safety testing conducted by our own internal teams, as well as the world’s leading independent quality assurance testing organization, and also by independent labs engaged by our retail partners," Russ Hornsby, CEO of Cepia, said in a written statement. "The results of every test prove that our products are in compliance with all government and industry safety standards."
Bruce Katz, a senior vice president of Cepia, told CNN: "They do not contain high levels of antimony in any way."
"None of these tests have failed over the many months we’ve been producing this product," Katz said.

I do a lot of writing on the chemical hazards contained with in products specifically designed for babies & children. Actually I spend most of each day researching such info.
The one thing that rings true so often is that one item considered safe – may actually be safe to an adult but that doesn’t actually provide any real assurance that it can be considered as safe for a baby or young child.
Why? We as adults do not normally stick every toy etc into our mouths 500 times per day.
Even if we did stick the toy in our mouths 500 times per day. The amount of substance in comparison to our body mass – would be minimal – Yet minimal is enough to cause health hazards.
Take the same amount of toxins resulting from the babies experimentation & exploration of his surrounding world and its body mass.
Ratio difference toxin per mass – adult
toxin per mass – baby
Adults also have better developed organs to cope more successfully with various toxins than a small child.
Safety standards appear to be rather inadequate anyway but I doubt very much that the standards have taken into account weight, age etc.
