Beware Work at Home Scams

The unsustainable geometric progression of a c...

Many new moms want to earn some money from home- unfortunately there are a lot of bad apples out there.  While true, not all of the below are scams- you more than likely won’t earn a penny doing any of them.

The different types:

Medical Billing and Coding:  There are perfectly legitimate jobs for a medical billing and coding specialist.  However, (at least in the US) you have to have a degree do work in this field.

The Pyramid:If you give me $5 I’ll in turn tell you how to get 5 people to give you $5.  Sure, these really aren’t normally so cut and dry- but watch out for anything that sounds like a fantasy (relaxing with people under you, heavily selling on an idea- light on the product, asking you to hand over money)

The main thing to watch out for is asking you to give them money.

Real work simply doesn’t do that.

If you see a lot of listings on a website that all sound too good to be true, and suspiciously similar- beware!

You won’t get rich, especially quickly. Many of the scams promise instant (or nearly instant) wealth and riches- this simply is impossible and will not happen.

To check out a few more red flags- check out Consumerists’ information on MLMs.

While it is true that there are quite a few legitimate work at home jobs, they are hard to come by.  The best advice is simply be vigilant, and if it sounds too good to be true- it probably is.
