Taking Care Of Your Toddler’s Teeth
Image via Wikipedia
Having a good start in dental hygiene and healthy habits can have a lifetimes worth of positive impact. Some habits are fantastic to start early and keep up with.
- Dentists say that it isn’t the amount of candy, it is the sugar’s length of contact with teeth. It is dentally speaking, better to eat a bunch at once than a limited amount throughout the day.
- Starting a good care routine early on can help children keep the habit throughout their lives. Two or three times a day minimum is recommended.
- Fruits like raisins are actually pretty bad for children’s teeth, if possible brush soon after eating them. Raisins (and other stickier fruits) stay on teeth longer, and the sugars in them have more contact, and can damage teeth.
- Dentists can apply sealants to baby teeth to help protect them from many of the typical problems.
- It is recommended to brush three times a day and after all meals.
- Even with the fluoride in the water, it isn’t enough for protection.
Getting started early, before your child’s teeth are even in can help get them used to brushing. Gently ‘brushing’ their gums with a special baby toothbrush can get them used to it, and even help with gum pain from teething.
