Rotavirus Vaccine Contamination

Doctors were warned to immediately halt the use of the Rotavirus vaccination on Monday over a risk of contamination. The contamination in the vaccination is said to not be dangerous, but instead the doctors were warned to stop using it as a precautionary measure.
The vaccination was said to be contaminated with a pig virus that is harmless to humans.
According to an article on the contamination:
The FDA decided to announce the precautions because “vaccines are supposed to be sterile, and because there is competing vaccine against diarrhea-causing rotavirus that has tested clean—Merck’s Rotaq—the FDA decided to err on the side of caution.” A FDA commissioner stated, “This was a difficult decision for us to make because there is no evidence at this time hat there is a risk to patients who have received this vaccine, and we know there are real benefits for children to be vaccinated against rotavirus.

Rotavirus is a serious illness for babies, and it is a standard illness to be vaccinated against. It causes diarrhea and can be fatal for infants. There have been no reported illness or injuries linked to the contamination.
