What To Do With Baby’s Old Toys?

bucket

Spring cleaning is an annual holiday in many homes.  With all the new energy and warmth in the air, it’s something that almost seems necessary.  With all of the cleaning going on, something that can be overlooked fairly easily are you children’s old toys.

Most parents have a ton of stuffed animals, plastic baubles, and other toys that aren’t played with anymore.  While sure, you could keep them and let them sit in the attic or basement until forever consider donating them to those less fortunate.

Look around for those donation boxes, they can usually be found at Wal-Mart and many other shopping centers.  If the toys are in a good or fair condition, without broken or missing pieces, there are many kids who would love to get them.  Ebay and thrift shops may be another option.

If the toys are broken or damaged however, it may be best to just toss them.  If there are a few small things that have important memories for you, save them.  For the most part however, it may not be a good idea to save an entire toybox’s worth of older toys, especially with the additonal clutter.

You may be able to get your child to help by talking in age-appropriate terms about how some kids don’t have enough, and would love to get them.  Let them know that it is understandable to not want to give up a toy.

As an added bonus to reducing clutter, you get to feel great for doing something to help someone.  Plus, teaching children to think of others is a lesson that will be remembered for a very long time.
