Benadryl and other Medicine for Kids Recall
Johnson & Johnson’s through its McNeil Consumer Healthcare is said to be recalling some four million bottles of the kids medicine, BENADRYL® Allergy FASTMELT® Tablets which comes in both cherry and grape. Also included in the recall is the Junior Strength MOTRIN® Caplets. These medicines supposedly help cure cough, colds and allergies.
The recall follows a previous one that the company has also announced in May of this year.
The recall was made after a review done through McNeil’s Comprehensive Action Plan, which showed that the products were insufficiently developed before manufacturing. None of the recalls, however, meant that the medicines would cause adverse effects. In short, the company is making sure the medicines are truly safe and sufficient. This is just a precautionary measure and consumers may still make use of the product if they prefer, according to this report.
Stores, however, are asked to pull these medicines from their shelves. The recall notices were posted at the McNeil website as early as November 15th. Recalls for Benadryl and Mortrin are also effective in areas such as Belize, Barbados, Canada, Puerto Rico, St. Martin and St. Thomas.
A third product, Rolaids Soft Chewables, was also recalled in the market, following complaints from consumers who found the consistency of the tablets unusual. It has been found to have traces of crystallized sugar. According to McNeil which distributes Rolaids, this medicine comes from a third-party manufacturer, with McNeil distributing it for the United States.
