What’s The Meaning of Christmas for Kids?
Obviously, children love Christmas because they receive hundreds of presents from family and friends of their parents and guardians. But beyond all the toys and the gifting, and the thought of Santa Claus rewarding them with presents they’ve wished for, when do you exactly talk to your kids about why Christmas is being celebrated? And how do you tell them what it’s all about?
There are many ways to do this. Depending on the child’s age, the best approach would have to be reading or watching Christmas story books and videos so that they would relate to why all children receive gifts this season. (As this date supposedly represents the birth of Baby Jesus).
Spend a night doing this with the family so that you also create lasting moments your children will look back to when they are older.
In the same manner, songs also impart a few knowledge about why we celebrate Christmas. On top of those fun songs about Santa, the reindeer and the Winter Wonderland, there are also songs about Jesus’ birth and giving love on Christmas which you can play or sing when the kids are around.
Christmas is also the time for giving….not just receiving. Let your children understand that more than the presents, it’s the gesture of sharing and giving that makes Christmas special. Set an example by donate to charity with your kids. Encourage them to participate in outreach programs this season (especially if they are older kids already).
