When Kids Do Not Like Their Presents

Screen shot 2010-12-27 at 8.04.24 AM I don’t know how many parents have encountered this but when my teenager was a young boy, he went home from his school’s Christmas party and was so depressed about not getting a good gift. Turns out most of his classmates received toys they really loved from the Kris Kringle and my son, who was 8 years old then, got socks.

Well, that really sucked. So how do you appease the child when disappointed at Christmas?

A little talk with them will probably help. Now’s perhaps the best time to teach them the value of giving, more than receiving. The old adage, “It’s the thought that counts…” may not mean much, especially to a young child, but you can slowly teach them the meaning of this.

I had a friend bring her kid to the mall to pick up toys the toy she wants right after getting disappointed about not getting it from the Christmas party.

It really depends on your child and their ability to grasp the essence of gifting this season. You know your child better, so you know the best way to reach to them and let them know the essence of the season.
