SACRAMENTO, Calif., Feb. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The California School Library Association (CSLA) announces the launch of the 2011 California Campaign for Strong School Libraries.

The Campaign’s purpose is to raise awareness with all Californians about the importance of every child’s access to a library staffed by a credentialed teacher librarian and clerical staff, with a budget to support important resources for reading, research and creative projects.

Specifically, the Campaign is a public awareness program aimed at publicizing the role of today’s school libraries and the new Model School Library Standards approved by the State Board of Education last fall. The standards include:  1) Standards for Students that delineate what students should know and be able to do at each grade level or grade span to enable students to succeed in school, higher education and the workforce, and; 2) baselevel staffing, resources and infrastructure, including technology, required for effective school library programs for students.

Through a variety of projects and programs, the Campaign for Strong School libraries is targeting areas throughout California to raise awareness about the importance of strong school libraries for our children and funds to support projects.  Some of these projects include: expanding the CSLA 2.0 tutorials to include:

The California Campaign for Strong School Libraries is dedicated to funding projects and programs dedicated to helping school library professionals and support staff to create projects for their students, faculty and/or administrators, develop legislative campaigns that support requirements for school libraries; and design curriculum and instruction that will benefit our students for years to come.

The California School Library Association advocates, educates, and collaborates to ensure that all California students and educators are effective users of ideas and information.
