The MIL Corporation Senior Assistant Vice President Leads Successful Career, Battles Children’s Disease
MIL’s newest Sr. VP balances successful career and challenging family disease
BOWIE, Md., Feb. 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Harvey Weiner, who recently joined The MIL Corporation (MIL), a midsized government contractor, has lead an impressive career in consulting, systems integration, and program management services to the Federal government. His most important feat, however, is his fight to find a cure for his son and daughter’s disease.
The Weiner’s daughter, Melissa, 13, and son, Mathew, 16, were both under the age of three when the family learned both children were diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF), a genetic lung and digestive system disease.
“We were devastated by this news,” says Mr. Weiner. “Like all parents, we had big dreams for our kids.”
Mr. Weiner, who is a Senior Assistant Vice President at MIL, and Mrs. Weiner, an attorney with the US Environmental Protection Agency, dedicate much of their time to several fundraising boards and have always worked with the Metropolitan Washington, DC Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to learn about their children’s disease and help raise awareness.
“At the time they were diagnosed, the average life expectancy for CF patients averaged only 20 years; today, it has doubled to nearly 40 years,” says Mr. Weiner. “I want our kids to be able to make their own dreams come true, and if we continue to fund important research, it looks like that’s something that could happen.”
Perhaps the most significant fundraiser for the Weiners is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s annual Joker’s Wild Casino Night for which they have served on the committee for the past 12 years. This year, MIL is proud to join the cause in being the event’s presenting sponsor this weekend.
“MIL has an excellent community service program, MIL CARES, which stands for Celebrates, Acknowledges, Responds, Energizes, Strengthens,” says Mr. Weiner. “My organization has taken part in numerous community outreach initiatives and I am honored they have taken my very personal cause under their wing. I look forward to sharing the Joker’s Wild Event with my new workplace.”
While tirelessly fundraising for a CF cure, Mr. Weiner has also been busy supporting his family as a Project Management Professional (PMP) and Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM).
Mr. Weiner came to MIL from CGI Federal where he served as Director of Consulting Services, leading large-scale, global IT programs and projects for Federal civilian agencies and organizations. He holds a distinguished 20+ year track record leading IT
