Fever Busters We Bet You Didn’t Know

Screen shot 2011-04-30 at 1.54.23 PMBaby fevers are wicked and warm weathers also trigger this among small children. The heat can lead to sweating that will lead to cough and colds which may develop into a full blown fever. It’s hard for parents to watch their babies suffer. Fortunately there are a lot of things you can do to ease the discomfort. And these aren’t tricks that doctors will tell you.

When you baby has a fever, bear in mind to never do this:

1. Alcohol Rub. While it’s proven to work with adults, some babies may develop reactions from it. Some folks make use of alcohol for sponge bath as it supposedly helps lower the body’s temperature. However, as the skin cools down, the baby can shiver and tremble. And this can only lead to something bad so avoid it.

2. Head Compress. A cloth that’s soaked in water and then compressed on the babies head or shoulder may give relief. Some parents may think it’s helpful to do a headwrap. But remember that babies are still very young and their body is delicate. You could hurt your baby this way.

3. Less Clothes. Most adults usually bundle up their baby when they have fever, but there is a tendency to over bundle and this will not help the baby become comfortable or lose his fever. Dress them in single cotton clothes instead. And keep the air fresh by using a dehumidifier. If bundled up, and if the room doesn’t have proper circulation, the baby tends to overheat.

Remember these simple tips the next time you’re taking care of a sick baby.
