Advanced Academics’ Groundbreaking Instructional Methods Profiled by Education Think Tank Innosight Institute

OKLAHOMA CITY–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Advanced Academics, a nationally recognized online learning provider, is
the subject of a new case study by Innosight Institute, a
not-for-profit, non-partisan think tank focused on developing and
promoting solutions in education and health care. The report, “Advanced
Academics: Pioneering an Innovative Teaching Model,” focuses on the
organization’s groundbreaking instructional techniques for online
learning.

“teachers in traditional schools typically spend less than 20 percent of
their time helping students individually, Advanced Academics teachers
spend the majority of their time working one-on-one with students via
chat, email, and phone.”

“Innosight’s goal is to apply Harvard Business School Professor Clayton
M. Christensen’s theories of disruptive innovation to solving our
nation’s most pressing educational problems,” said Katherine Mackey,
Innosight Institute education research fellow. “We profiled Advanced
Academics because of the organization’s belief that every student learns
differently and its emphasis on one-on-one student interaction. We came
away from our research impressed by the collaborative work atmosphere,
the high level of personalized support offered to students and the
dedication to student success.”

The September 2011 case study shows how Advanced Academics’ hiring
practices, training programs and work environment support a
student-centered approach to teaching. Best practices include hiring
teachers with extensive traditional classroom experience, providing
teaching staff with comprehensive training on how to communicate with
students online, pairing new teachers with veteran instructors and using
a team-based approach to instruction. The report finds that while
“teachers in traditional schools typically spend less than 20 percent of
their time helping students individually, Advanced Academics teachers
spend the majority of their time working one-on-one with students via
