Kids from Connecticut school to sing for Grammys
NEWTOWN, Connecticut (AP) – Children from the Connecticut school where a horrific massacre occurred will be singing for the Grammy Awards.
Newtown Music Project director Sabrina Post says American Idol host Ryan Seacrest will fly to Connecticut to do a live segment with the children for Sunday’s broadcast.
Post says a pre-recorded version of “Over the Rainbow” will be shown and the children will do a live performance of Carly Rae Jepson’s “Call Me Maybe.”
Post says the kids recorded the song made famous by “The Wizard of Oz” because they wanted to help the town heal from the tragedy.
The proceeds from the download of the single benefit the Newtown Youth Academy. The nonprofit sports center opened free programs to Newtown children after the December shooting and hopes to expand free programming.
