This is Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon’s nursery. The couple has reportedly spent about $1.3 Million for this, in preparation for the coming of their twins, converting an entire wing of their mansion in Beverly Hills into this luxury area.

It’s undoubtedly an extravagant way to welcome babies…but since these celebrities can afford it, money isn’t the going to matter.

According to reports, the Grammy winning singer wanted the room to have 18k gold trimmings and soft furnishing, with walk in wardrobe compartments and a collection of designer clothes from Petit Trésor. The furniture alone cost at round thousand dollars per piece, including one sofa that the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, himself has sat on or used in one of his concerts. The room will also have state of the art sound system and theater system.

Lavish you say? Mariah apparently isn’t the only one who has gone crazy decorating the nursery. This is pretty standard in Hollywood, or if you’re a celebrity like them. It’s also quite expected of these stars, especially since the twins are going to be Mariah’s first children. Some parents would have no qualms about spending for the first-borns. Only, this couple has millions to spend, that’s the difference.

And this is just the beginning…the baby haven’t even arrived yet. The rest of their lives pretty much guarantee they will be living in the lap of luxury.

I wonder what their first birthday is going to be like, huh?

There is a time in my daughter’s life that I am absolutely dreading.  It’s a part of life that is both unavoidable and frightening to me.  While, like many others I pride myself on what I know and my abilities there is one thing I simply cannot grasp.  That one thing that is so elusively out of my reach?  Math.  What I used to know is rusty, and the things I’ve somehow managed to retain are painfully ‘so yesterday’ (as a cousin of mine tells me).

Scientific theory, metaphysical conundrums, and in depth coding I know.  Yet put a page full of algebra in front of me?  I go blank.

While one could be thankful that they aren’t alone, a study by the Intel Corporation shows that most parents would rather talk to their kids about sex and drugs than science.  While this is surprising, as soon as I can manage a smile, I start thinking about my daughter’s future mathematics homework.

Nearly a quarter of parents (23 percent) who admit to being less involved in their child’s math and science education than they would like say their own lack of knowledge in these subjects is a key barrier.

This study is a surprising one, and not only for those parents lacking in mathematical skills.  It shows that parents are hesitant to help when they are out of their own comfort zone.  Perhaps instead of the panic, we should be learning the same things?  Considering that a parent’s interest in their child’s learning does help the child out in the long run.
