A co-parenting situation is the preferred set up for many families. With so many having experienced divorce, finding a good way to work together for the mutual goal, and work with each other for your children is important for your child. That is a fact that most do know, and try to work with even when ‘dealing’ with each other may be hard.

Yet, many are finding that they are having problems with co-parenting.

Parents who limit contacts by their co-parent with the children often have what they believe to be rational reasons. Yet, children suffer when they are deprived of the very important regular contact that they should have with their noncustodial parent.

Research has found that many children of divorce have infrequent contact with their noncustodial parent. Some studies have pointed out that about a third of noncustodial fathers saw their children only once a week. And a similar percentage of noncustodial fathers only communicated with their children by phone or letter once a week. Other surveys have shown that about one in five fathers had not seen their children in the past year.

(Source)

Finding a way to work with each other, even through the difficulties or problems can make a difference for your children. While parents working together is the ideal, if it does prove to harder, finding ways to cope and work (even if it is only yourself working towards the coping).

While it can seem unfair, even if your ex isn’t holding their end of the agreement.

Even with the holiday season almost over, and bringing 2009 with it- there still seems to be so much to do. With this new year just days away, maybe it could be a great time to think of getting a new outlook.

While New Years usually is a time of resolution, not many people tend to keep them up. Normally most people quit after a couple weeks, and nearly all quit by the time the June is here.

Trying to keep up your resolution may seem difficult after a while- but depending on what your is just work it into your daily routine. There are studies that do suggest that doing something everyday for a month may actually help assure it is part of your daily routine.

If it is at all possible, try working your daily routine around your resolution. Starting in small bits and pieces can help, slowly working up to something more. Say if you resolution is to lose weight, start with some jumping jacks or some yoga- just something small. Then slowly raise the intensity and stick with it.

Making a ‘routine’ chart may also help. Writing down on a large piece of paper or poster board your goals and tacking it to a visible wall can also sometimes make a difference.

Will you be getting the H1N1 (Swine Flu) vaccine?

This one simple question has been the culprit of a lot of stress, worry and anger lately. Even the flu itself has caused seemingly more issues that extend far, far beyond just getting sick. Between debates, concerns, and general stress induced by countless sources- it’s enough to drive one mad.

Just how bad is the swine flu?

While there sill is a concern over a mutation, so far this ‘world ending’ flu seems to be anything but. The long past versions cited so often were much worse, and this one isn’t close of late. There is so much fear and worry that most parents are more fearful of the vaccination than the actual H1N1 flu itself.

Where can I Find Out More?

There really are many, many fabulous sources for information that can be found online. Including a simple yet completely to the point Q&A post found here from the Vancouver Sun (a highly recommended read). Which, due to it’s complete lack of fearfulness, is a personal favorite on the topic.

For a governmental look at H1N1:

Canadian Information on H1N1

The CDC Information Page

While the ‘Swine Flu’ may not be as serious as some have been worried, it is still better to avoid getting sick from even a mild flu, after all, nobody wants to pass it on. While my own daughter has received the annual flu vaccination, the rest of our family (myself included) is looking for a place to get the same.

It seems around my area there is a large shortage of the flu vaccine, partially due to fears of both the actual ‘swine flu’ and the vaccination against.

A fair portion of the news in the media is frightening, and many are concerned about both the flu itself and the vaccination against. This leaves many with a lot of confusion, including many parents. Just remember: always research first before panicking.

The comment did strike me and got me thinking. Then hearing myself using the same tone, I realized he’s right.

I am turning into my own mom. While it shouldn’t be exactly surprising, considering most women say the same exact thing, especially in recent years.

Researchers looked at everything from the number of times parents spanked children to how often children were praised.
Results showed the second generation of mothers very closely followed their own mothers pattern.

Dad’s however seem to not follow the same footsteps, as generally a son’s parenting style doesn’t seem to be linked to mom at all. It was a surprise to the researchers, but while the study didn’t study father’s influence the answer to where men learn parenting modes may come into play there.

While the recession is forcing cost cutting remedies in as many ways as there are people. It seems that even with all the ‘recession friendly’ industries, the one really holding up is baby clothing. Even though mom and dad are cutting corners on their own duds, no expense is spared for the little ones.

The industry centers itself understandably around the excitement around a new arrival’s birth, and in the excitement parents are still willing to shell out money for the best for their baby. In fact the baby clothing industry as a whole only fell about 1% in the last few years, and with only a 0.09% drop expected for the time being.

None of that is to say you can’t find some fabulous deals though. Even online shopping around can still save you a ton. The recession’s impact on business’ have made the deals at times even better, with all the companies out there vying for your money, shopping around can save you even more on expenses.

The companies know that most of us have less to spend so they tend to have better specials out there, all you have to do is some quick research to find the best!
