Image via CrunchBase

The story over a teen suing his mother for hacking into his Facebook account is making the rounds. According to the sides of the story (the teen’s and his mom’s) he is suing over what he says is ‘harassment’ among other things, due to mom breaking into the account and posting things on his wall publicly.

The teen lives with his grandmother due to a rough divorce leaving mom with ‘mental problems’ that left her ‘unable to care for him’. She said that he had been posting up a lot of questionable things, and that she felt it was her right to lock him out of his account (and reportedly post some more questionable things on the wall).

Admittedly it’s pretty easy to see from both sides of this, and if it weren’t the kid’s mom- say instead it was another kid, the move is almost understandable. Many wonder though, if maybe all parties involved have gone too far.

In regards to the charges she said:

"He had been warned before about things he had been posting," Denise said in defense of her actions, which she also specified didn’t include "hacking" as her son left his laptop and Facebook account open at her house.

Then again, if you agree with the move or not – should parents hack into(or in this case lock out of) their children’s accounts?

Brstol Palin, the one time Vice Presidential hopeful’s Sara Palin’s daughter was on Oprah recently talking sex and babies. While that talk seems to be a bit too late, the teenage mother is swearing to remain celibate until marriage.

It seems that Bristol could have had a real and positive impact with teenaged girls, but instead of talking about the realities of being a teenaged mother, and the hardships that comes with it she instead decided to avoid it.

Oprah herself found many issues with the things Bristol was saying:

The daytime talk-show queen says she "bristled" when she read a recent In Touch cover story (one that reportedly earned Bristol $100,000) in which the 19-year-old mom declares, "I’m not going to have sex until I’m married. I can guarantee it."

Oprah just wants to know why Bristol would want to set herself up like this. And more than that, what’s the point in getting everyone involved in her sex life when it’s way easier and much less intrusive to just keep to yourself even if that does mean forfeiting a six-figure tabloid cover.

(Source)

Abstinence-Only tends to cause a few problems. While it is completely true that abstinence is the only surefire way to avoid pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease- it’s also what many consider to be the most difficult way to avoid them.

Admittedly, either way- I’m with Oprah and her train of thought. Is this all in a money grab? Or do the Palins just miss the spotlight?

What do you think?

When it comes to the middle school years, it can feel like everything is changing at once, especially friendships. Will you still be friends with the kids you were close to in elementary school? How will you make new friends? And what is a real friend, anyway?

Written by an expert on tween and teen issues, REAL FRIENDS VS. THE OTHER KIND offers insider information on making friends, resolving disputes, and dealing with common hazards of the middle school social scene–like gossip, exclusion, and cyberbullying. There’s also expert advice on crushes, peer pressure, and being there for friends who need help. Filled with character narratives, quizzes, quotes from real kids, and resources, this book is a survival guide for the middle school years.

REAL FRIENDS VS. THE OTHER KIND offers middle schoolers helpful, realistic advice on how to:

Identify what being a friend means to you–and what it doesn’t.

Stand up for beliefs and resolve conflicts with friends.

Deal with peer pressure, especially from someone you consider a friend.

Reach out to friends who seem to need help.

“This book lays out a guide for finding out who your real friends are with added tips on how to be a great friend.”
