One of the things that parent often have trouble with as far as their babies and toddlers are concerned is making them have a haircut. The first one is sure to be hell for the infant and you can just wonder how it would go along in the succeeding visits to the nearest kids’ barber shop. One thing that is certain is that they don’t want strangers putting their hands on their hair.

But as a parent, you still follow the usual course of grooming, meaning that you would want your baby to look good at all times as possible. With that in mind, it is apparent that trying to figure out things on how to divert their attention while the barber is clipping away those scissors must be turned to.

Here are some tips you can do:

Let them see something likable to their eyes. This can be any object that has colorful or unique shapes which will somehow allow his curiosity to find out what it is.

Bring along his favorite toy. A child could care less if he has his favorite toy along. He will want to play with it or do anything with it and all his attention will be on that certain toy.

Play with him or try to talk to him. At his age, he cannot understand a word you will say most of the time. But the attention is all that matters. That is something he does know and you would be best doing it to put his attention towards you.

Exercise a lot of patience. A normal 15 to 30 minute haircut may go as long as an hour or so. Remember that while you do divert his attention, it still stands that there will be lapses where he may figure out something fishy going on. Just make sure that you trim of the various head sections one at a time and you will get that child looking better.

There are a lot of mothers with really young and curious kids who have given up wearing jewelry because of the safety hazards it carry. With a baby in tow, they can easily grab and eat the necklace or bangle the mother is wearing and this will definitely choke the child or worse, suffocate him to death.

I’m not sure if you will find this idea good or bad… but I wonder what other parents think of this collection of non-toxic jewelry from Chewbeads.

It has literally created beads that kids can chew on, without their parents having to worry about choking, for one thing. Yes, these are literally edible accessories created by a mother who had that dilemma.

The accessories are made of non-toxic and soft, edible material. Not quite sure if it has any sweet taste to it, but I’m betting it’s the same for when toddlers chew on those teethers. By the way, this is also made of BPA-free, 100% silicon material…and you can clean it in a dishwasher.

Chewable accessories….For mothers with young kids who want to grab and put anything they find in their mouth, does this sound like a brilliant idea to you? Or would you keep NOT wearing jewelry while the baby is still in its grabby phase?

The collection comes in affordable prices, between $11 to $30, which isn’t at all bad. The other thing I’m not sure about is the way it fits into a mom’s fashion style, though. The colors are very light and dainty…not all moms like that, right?

Unleashing their creative side is a great learning experience not just for the child, but also for the parents who would be able to witness how a child marvels at what they have created.

You don’t necessarily have to have the best painting products. You can pick items available in your kitchen and create artsy project you and your toddler will enjoy. A reader has sent us some of these ideas on how to do it.

Making paint with soap — for this project, prepare detergent soaps of about 3 cups and some food coloring and water. Mix soap and water together, taking note to only add a little water at a time. The paint’s consistency must be cream-like. When it’s about right, add food coloring in different shades.

Making paint with flour — instead of soap, substitute this with flour and salt. The mixture would be a little puffy and it’s best to put this in squeeze containers to be able to handle it better.

Making paint with salt — aside from food coloring and water, you will need liquid starch for this. Mix this all together. This is the kind of paint that must be used immediately since when it dries out, the paint will crystalize beautifully.

There are plenty of things you can do with a set of colors. You can create artwork that can be displayed at home, too. It would be make your home so much more personal.

Toddlers are notoriously curios of their environment. Their exploration is part of a learning process but it can lead them to physical harm. Countless of times, toddlers will get into accidents. But this can be prevented if parents are a lot more vigilant when they’re starting to explore.

Specifically, they must watch out for these possible harmless situations which may lead to dangerous occurrence.

Toddlers & Dogs

The child doesn’t understand how dogs behave and may try to pull or unintentionally hurt them. Many children have been bitten by dogs because of this. Even the friendliest of dogs can be threatened by a toddler’s attempt to “play” with it. Don’t ever let them out of your sight when in the company of dogs.

Toddlers & Cars

I don’t know why some parents can manage to leave their toddlers alone inside the car, even for short errands. If they are a lot more mobile, they can accidentally release the park gear, which is dangerous and may cause death.

Toddlers & Bathtub

Never ever leave the child in the bathtub. If you have to answer the phone, it’s best to carry the child with you. They can slip and hurt themselves, lose their teeth or break their arms and legs or worse, cause a deadly head injury, if left alone.

These are common sense advises that, believe it or not, some parents fail to observe. The first prevention when it comes to accidents always starts with being vigilant.
